Petroleum News Alaska Staff

WesternGeco has applied to the state to shoot 36 square miles of 3-D seismic on the Kenai Peninsula near Sterling for Marathon Oil Co. The area includes federal, state, Kenai Borough, Native and private lands.

WesternGeco said receiver lines of cables and geophones would be laid on surface source points. In vehicle accessible areas, rubber tired seismic vibrators will be used. In areas that are not vehicle accessible, shot holes will be drilled.

Shot hole drilling will take place in October and November.

The recording phase will be in February and March.
