Exploration agreement inked for 75 square miles on North Slope

ARCO, PetroFina, Murphy to jointly explore 48,500 acres near Mikkelsen Bay east of Prudhoe

All or portions of 16 leases are included in a new North Slope exploration alliance. ARCO Alaska Inc., Petro-Fina Delaware Inc. and Murphy Exploration & Production Co. said Nov. 24 that they will share ownership in the leases 20 miles east of Prudhoe Bay and jointly explore the area.

The companies said that the Stockton Island alignment agreement includes more than 48,500 acres near Mikkelsen Bay, “provides for proportional ownership of all or portions of 16 leases and designates the area as a region all parties desire to jointly explore.”

Not all of the lease numbers involved were immediately available, but those identified are north of BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.’s Badami unit and northwest of the Exxon-operated Point Thomson unit. ...
