PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: UIC promotes Scott Danner

Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corp., the ANCSA village corporation of Barrow, Alaska, recently promoted Scott Danner to chief operating officer. Danner will report directly to UIC President Max Ahgeak.

In his new post, Danner will oversee and manage all operations of the UIC family of companies.

Prior to his promotion, Danner served as vice president of economic development and shareholder relations, managing Barrow operations, shareholder relations, marketing and oversight of new business development for UIC business lines.

His “business skills and experience are extensive, with primary emphasis on implementing strategies to provide high quality business services, while providing returns that support the cultural heritage and values of Native peoples. With a commitment to service, business acumen and a unique understanding of Iñupiat values and worldview, Mr. Danner serves the community professionally and personally on various boards and committees,” Hazel Munoz, corporate affairs manager for UIC, wrote in a recent press release.

Throughout his career Danner “has given generously of his time and efforts, particularly to programs that benefit our youth. Danner, a native Hawaiian, was raised on the Navajo, Hopi and Apache Indian reservations and has lived the past 31 years among the Iñupiat people of Barrow,” the release said.

Danner and his wife, Corrine, an Iñupiat, are raising six children between the ages of three and 22 years.

“UIC has a new vision and renewed energy, striving to better serve its shareholders and employees by achieving efficiencies, stabilizing operations, and growing the company. Mr. Danner is a firm believer in the team approach toward achieving corporate-wide objectives,” Munoz said.

Unlike mainstream corporations, UIC “distinguishes itself through serving the socio-economic needs of its shareholders and their descendants. UIC is on course to achieving its long-term goals and achieving its full potential as a leader in the Alaskan business landscape,” Munoz said.

Munoz can be reached at (907) 240-8875.
