Production breaks 1 million mark first time since May

Kristen Nelson

October Alaska North Slope production edged up toward a million barrel-a-day average, driven by colder temperatures, and total state production, including Cook Inlet, broke the million barrel a day average for the first month since May.

North Slope production averaged 993,317 barrels a day in October, up 8.79 percent from a September average of 913,038 barrels a day, an 80,279 barrel-a-day increase.

The Department of Revenue noted that there was one eight-hour shutdown of the trans-Alaska pipeline Oct. 7 for scheduled maintenance and a 25 hour production day on Oct. 29 because of the end of daylight savings time. The average temperature at Pump Station 1 was 18.7 degrees Fahrenheit in October, 0.3 degrees above the four-year average of 18.4 degrees.

Largest increase at Prudhoe

All North Slope fields averaged more production per day in October than in September.

Prudhoe Bay production averaged 577,031 barrels a day in October, up 12.36 percent from an average of 513,537 barrels a day for September, an increase of 63,494 barrels a day.
