USGS hosts core workshop
The U.S. Geological Survey will host a National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska core workshop in Denver March 24-26 in support of the upcoming NPR-A lease sale.
The workshop is sponsored by the USGS, the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council and the Colorado School of Mines Department of Geology and Geological Engineering.
Participants will have an opportunity to examine, describe, photograph and sample drill cores from exploration wells in and adjacent to NPR-A.
The workshop will be held at the USGS Core Research Center at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, Colo., a state-of-the-art facility that houses a research collection of more than 1 million feet of core.
All cores from the NPR-A area archived at the CRC, including those planned for display during the workshop, will be listed in figure and table formats at the Workshops icon at http://energy.usgs.gov/
Cores representing a spectrum of geographic locations and stratigraphic intervals will be rotated through the CRC core examination room on March 24 and 25. March 26 will be reserved for more detailed examination and sampling of specific cores at the request of workshop participants.
Brief presentations will introduce participants to each set of cores displayed; most of the workshop time will be devoted to open core examination.
The fee for the workshop is $100. More information can be found by clicking the Workshops icon at http://energy.usgs.gov/
