SteelFab fabricates cells for Red Dog Mine

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Anchorage-based SteelFab said May 5 that it is fabricating four flotation cells for use in zinc processing at Cominco Alaska Inc.’s Red Dog Mine near Kotzebue.

The cells are each 12 feet in diameter and 48 feet high. SteelFab said they have been designed by, and are being built for, Vancouver, B.C.-based Canadian Process Technologies, a world leader in the supply of specialized floatation equipment.

Scheduled for completion at the end of May, the four cells are American Petroleum Institute 650 code vessels.

SteelFab said it is the largest locally owned steel fabricator and service center in Alaska and has the state’s largest volume capacity manufacturing plant.
