Minerals Management Service will take public comment by phone

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service Alaska OCS Region said Dec. 17 that it will take public comment on a toll free line for its proposed five-year oil and gas lease sale program.

A draft environmental impact statement has been issued for the proposed OCS Oil and Gas 5-Year Program, 2002-2007 and MMS held hearings in Alaska in early December.

The toll-free phone-in line gives rural Alaskans who were unable to attend one of the public hearings the opportunity to comment orally on the proposed program.

The phone line will be available on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10 from 4-8 p.m. MMS employees and a court reporter will hear and record testimony. MMS is requesting that testimony be limited to five minutes. The toll-free number is 1-800-764-2627.

A final EIS for the 2002-2007 five-year program will be released in April.
