DGC reviews Marathon, BP projects

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Marathon Oil Co. has permit applications for Kenai Peninsula seismic and drilling programs under review at the Division of Governmental Coordination.

WesternGeco LLC will do a 36 square mile 3-D seismic program for Marathon near Sterling on federal, state, borough, Native and private lands.

Marathon plans two gas exploration wells in the Ninilchik unit: the Abalone No. 1 exploration well on surface owned by Ninilchik Native Association and Ninilchik State No. 1, a project approved in 1996 but cancelled.

On the North Slope, DGC says BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. proposes pigging and flaring at the Badami pipeline tie-in pad where the pipeline connects with the Endicott pipeline in section 3 T10N-R16E, UM. Crude oil in the pipeline would be temporarily replaced with gas that would be used for cleaning, gauging and operation of smart pigs to survey the position of the pipeline and inspect for corrosion.
