The Council of Logistics Management, an international organization formed in 1963 to support the logistics profession, has approved the formation of an Alaska chapter.
In a mid-April statement, the Alaska Roundtable said it has “gained acceptance quickly among Alaska supply chain management professionals.” It said its formation “further enhances the growing Alaska focus on logistics.”
Alaska Roundtable Secretary Eric Britten, a, Anchorage-based CSX Lines executive, told PNA May 25 that the state roster already has 65 members “from local, state and federal agencies, air, sea and land transporters, freight forwarders, engineering consultants, construction companies, stevedore agencies and the University of Alaska.”
Two years ago the University of Alaska Anchorage created a Logistics Chair “with the encouragement and support of the mayor’s office” and statewide transportation companies, the chapters said in April.
The Alaska Roundtable’s Cabinet for 2000 includes Britten and Linda Leary, K&W/Carlile, president; Steve Silverstein, Alaska Railroad, vice president; and Jim Pedersen, Lynden Logistics, treasurer. Cabinet chairs are Philip Price, UAA, education; Michael Kean, Anchorage Economic Development Corp., hospitality; Jeanine St. John, Lynden Logistics, membership; and Mark Bendersky, Alaska Science and Technology Foundation, research and development.
The group will meet on the third Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 11:30 a.m. at the International Airport Inn in Anchorage.
