Labor chiefs urges better safety in the workplace

Labor Commissioner Ed Flanagan, alarmed at four job site fatalities within five weeks, asked Alaska workers and employers May 20 to pay more attention to safety in the workplace.

The recent fatal accidents include an equipment operator killed by an avalanche in Cordova, a Wrangell man electrocuted while attempting to detach a load from a helicopter, a laborer on a drilling crew crushed while attempting to attach a tow cable to a drill rig at Nome, and a warehouseman in Fairbanks crushed by a pallet of electrical conduit.

Green Star chooses Skaling as executive director

Sean Skaling was named executive director of Green Star, effective May 24. He replaces former executive director Corrine Eilo.
