Arctic Directory October 2015: AES ‘Paannaq Program’ wins 2015 Communitas Award
ASRC Energy Services LLC said that on March 20 the Communitas Awards recognized exceptional businesses, organization and individuals for excellence in community service and corporate social responsibility. AES’s Paannaq Program won the 2015 Communitas Award in category 10: leadership in community services and corporate social responsibility - the broadest and most comprehensive category.
Communitas is a Latin word that means people coming together for the good of a community.
Communitas Awards seek to honor those special companies, organizations and individuals that go beyond rhetoric and whose commitment sets them apart from their competition. The Communitas Awards are an international effort to recognize the spirit of Communitas - people helping people. Communitas winners unselfishly give of themselves and their resources to benefit their employees, communities and environment. Nominees were evaluated on the extent and effectiveness of their efforts and needed to demonstrate an all-around effort to give back to the community, including company organized volunteer programs, philanthropy and sustainable businesses practices.
Established in 2009, the Paannaq Program is focused on economic development, advancing entrepreneurship, capacity building, collaboration with local organizations and social investment. The purpose of the program is to connect AES and the communities of the Arctic Slope in a partnership that enriches the lives of the residents, promotes Iñupiat values, and enhances economic sustainability. Paannaq, meaning “partner,” is an investment in the eight Iñupiaq communities located in the Arctic Slope Regional Corp. region. Each of ASRC’s seven subsidiaries partners with one or more villages in the region as part of program, and AES’ main partnerships are with the villages of Wainwright and Atqasuk.
