Pipeline rivals look to move oil sands production

Petroleum News Staff

Canadian pipeline companies Enbridge and Terasen (formerly BC Gas) expect to made decisions this year on possible pipelines to carry increasing oil sands production out of Alberta. Terasen is studying a possible 450,000-barrel-per-day system from Edmonton refineries to either the Vancouver region or the U.S. It hopes to offer producers an alternative to the cost barriers created by current shipping contracts.

Enbridge is exploring various options for delivering 400,000 barrels per day to the Chicago hub, or the west coast for possible tanker shipment to California.
