Organizational changes at Alyeska

Company names Melphine Evans senior vice president administration and CFO; Rob Shoaf VP JPO relations; Denis LeBlanc VP and general audit manager

Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. announced a number of organizational changes March 1. Melphine Evans has been named senior vice president of administration and chief financial officer, reporting to Bob Malone, president and CEO/COO of Alyeska.

Evans joined the company in 1997 as vice president of strategic planning and control. Prior to that, she was chief financial officer of the Anchorage Telephone Utility. She has a masters of science from Carnegie-Mellon University in management and policy and is vice chair for the Alaska Permanent Fund Corp. and chair of the audit committee.

Departments reporting to Evans include: human resources, open work environment, legal, finance, information technology, external affairs, security, support services and oil movements.

Rob Shoaf, also reporting to Malone, will serve as vice president, JPO relations. Shoaf has been with Alyeska for 18 years.

Denis LeBlanc, also reporting to Malone, will serve as vice president and general audit manager, responsible for internal audit, quality and inspection, business practice office, employee concerns program and right of way compliance.

Reporting to Evans

Reporting to Evans as senior vice president of administration are:

David Otto, promoted to vice president, human resources, accountable for recruitment, training, organizational development, Alaska Native hire and diversity, medical, workers compensation, compensation and benefits, and open work environment. Otto was personnel director for the state of Alaska from 1988 to 1991 and has been with Alyeska since 1992.

Ervin Barnes has been named acting chief information officer. Barnes has a B.S. in mathematics, an M.B.A. in business/quantitative analysis and more that 25 years of experience in the information technology area, most recently as the CIO of Powerware Corp.

Jennifer Ruys has been promoted to external affairs director, with responsibility for all internal and external communications, media relations, community relations and state and federal government relations. Prior to joining Alyeska in 1994, Ruys was employed at KTUU Channel 2 News for 7 years.

Charlene Hutton will become support services manager, accountable for safety, environment, crisis management, emergency preparedness and building services. Hutton has been with Alyeska for 16 years.

Lon Trotter will continue as vice president and general counsel and will lead and be accountable for all Alyeska’s legal efforts. He has been with the company since 1980.

Desi Mayo will continue as controller with responsibility for accounting, accounts payable and payroll functions; he will assume responsibilities for Alyeska’s treasury, contracts, planning and internal control functions. Prior to coming to Alyeska, Mayo for the chief financial officer for the Mat-Su Borough for 10 years.

Tom Stearns will continue as corporate security director and oversee trans-Alaska pipeline security activities. He joined Alyeska in 1995 after a 22-year career with the Alaska State Troopers.

Betsy Haines will continue in her role as oil movements manager with responsibility for oil measurement and scheduling functions; Haines has been with Alyeska since 1990.
