AOGCC approves regulation change in gas detection

Petroleum News Staff

The Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission has approved a change in its regulations for testing gas detection equipment. The regulation change approved April 30 provides that when a gas detection system is used in a situation where no blow out preventer is required, function testing of the gas detection system is required when drilling or workover operations begin. For operations with a blow out preventer, testing is required when the blow out preventer is installed.

The regulation change also allows the commission to waive methane detection requirements where no methane can accumulate and allow use of a single hydrogen sulfide sensor in place of three sensing points required where there is no potential for hydrogen sulfide to accumulate.
