El Paso plans pipeline from central Rockies

El Paso is seeking regulatory approval to build and operate a pipeline to carry about 545 million cubic feet per day from the central Rocky Mountain area.

In a filing with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on May 22, El Paso requested a facilitated permit to bring the $332 million Cheyenne Plains Gas Pipeline into service in August 2005.

The 380-mile, 30-inch system is designed to serve customers in the Midwest through interconnections in Kansas with five other lines that have a combined capacity of 6 billion cubic feet per day.

El Paso said the pipeline is fully subscribed by 14 shippers, led by Palo Petroleum at 123 million cubic feet per day and Anadarko Energy Services at 103 million cubic feet per day.

Williams Cos. scrapped a similar proposal last summer, saying it had insufficient demand.
