Torq keeps expanding

Torq Transloading, the ambitious Canadian rail provider, is adding another link to its network with plans to triple capacity at its crude hub in Unity, Saskatchewan.

The project is designed to triple capacity to 120 rail cars per day at a site about 80 miles southeast of Lloydminster and comes less than a week after the Calgary-based company disclosed plans for a C$100 million rail hub — its seventh — south of Unity at Kerrobert.

Company Chief Executive Officer Jarrett Zielinski said Unity is a “strategic geographic location for Torq and our customers, given the nature of the heavy crude oil production in the area and its proximity to end-user destinations.”

He said expansion of the terminal will “promote larger, more efficient movements of crude-by-rail and facilitate the ability of our customers to purchase operational crude oil storage and participate in diluents backhaul opportunities.”

Privately owned Torq said construction work should be completed this fall and offer access to the unit-loading facility to both Canadian Pacific and Canadian National railways.
