Arctic Directory 2016: UIC announces opening of Tukkumavik Suites in Barrow
UIC said recently that the new UIC Tukkumavik Suites in Barrow, Alaska, is officially open for business. A grand opening reception will be announced at a later date.
UIC President and CEO Anthony E. Edwardsen said, “This new facility will be good for Barrow by providing an up-to-date and much needed lodging resource. It’s great for workers and business groups coming to Barrow for projects, tour groups, and affordable enough for family and friends coming to visit.”
Edwardsen also said, “With more and more global focus on the Arctic; by providing Barrow with this new lodging facility this is just one way UIC is continually adapting and helping Barrow stay at the leading edge as our world changes.” The only facility of its kind in Barrow, Tukkumavik Suites offers traveling professionals all the comforts of home with competitive pricing. The 11,834 square foot facility was conceptualized, planned and built by UIC Design Plan Build and its partner Builders Choice. Construction of the $6.3 million project began in March 2015 and was completed a year later.
UIC Tukkumavik Suites is centrally located near shopping, restaurants and other town amenities. The Ińupiat word “Tukkumavik” means a place to rest. Due to Barrow’s limited lodging resources, this brand-new hotel is a welcomed relief to regular and new visitors alike. Built with traveling professionals in mind, Tukkumavik Suites is able to provide lodging for long-term and short-term guests.
