PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: PGS completes 2-D seismic work offshore Tunisia

PGS has finished 2-D seismic acquisition on a huge area offshore Tunisia. The work involved 2,000 line-kilometers of 2-D, tying in the relevant wells in the area. The new data will aid in geological analysis of the region for a new 3-D survey.

The survey covered about 25,000 square kilometers, or 6.2 million acres that will be subject for licensing to oil and gas companies next year, the company said March 31. The area is crossed by a fold thrust belt that links the North African Atlas and Sicilian Appennine. That belt includes the big Val D’Agri, Lina, Vega and Gagliano fields in Italy.

Petroleum Geo-Services ASA is principally involved in providing geophysical services worldwide and floating production services in the North Sea. The company has its headquarters in Oslo, Norway, and offices with 3,400 workers in 22 countries. It began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in December under the symbol PGS.
