Repair bill doubles at Athabasca oil sands project
Petroleum News Staff
A January fire that hit the Athabasca oil sands project in its first week of operation has cost C$150 million to repair – double initial estimates by the owners Shell Canada 60 percent, Chevron Canada Resources and Western Oil Sands, 20 percent each. The price tag for overall venture soared to C$5.7 billion from an initial budget of C$3.8 billion. But Shell is confident production will reach its target of 155,000 barrels per day in the third quarter.
