NordAq gets drilling permit

NordAq Energy Inc. is ready to begin its Smith Bay exploration program.

The Alaska-based independent received an Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission drilling permit for the Tulimaniq No. 1 exploration well on Feb. 13.

NordAq is using the Doyon Arctic Fox rig to drill the well near the delta of the Ikpikpuk River, off the coast of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. The well is primarily designed to collect rock samples and obtain vertical seismic information, although the company said it would perform a production test if the well encounters oil-bearing zones.
