Regular production to begin from phase 1 development of Tabasco

ARCO requests pool rules, participating area for the shallow accumulation thought to occur sporadically over more than 200 square miles

Regular production is expected to begin this fall from the Tabasco oil accumulation in the Kuparuk River unit. Kuparuk River operator ARCO Alaska Inc. has told state regulators the entire accumulation across the unit is “thought to be substantial” and has estimated 85 million barrels of oil in place with recovery of 20-30 million barrels in the 1,100 acre phase 1 development area at drill site 2T.

Phase 1 development will involve drilling 10 to 18 new wells in addition to two existing wells to develop 23 million barrels associated with the 85 million barrels original oil in place estimate for the Kuparuk River unit 2T drill site area. Maximum production from phase 1 is expected to be 13,500 barrels of oil per day, ARCO told the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

At an Aug. 3 pool rules hearing before the commission, ARCO Alaska officials said regular development drilling is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1998, with regular production as early as October. ...
