BLM seeks advisory council nominations

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public nominations for open positions on the Alaska Resource Advisory Council.

“As a land-management agency that carries out a multiple-use mission, the BLM seeks out and values diverse input from citizens who care about the stewardship of America’s public lands,” BLM Alaska State Director Bud Cribley said in a statement.

The council is composed of citizens with expertise in natural resource issues and advises BLM on its stewardship of 72 million acres of public lands in Alaska.

Five positions in three categories are open: representatives of organizations associated with energy and mineral development, the timber industry, transportation or rights of way, off-highway vehicle use and commercial recreation (one opening); representatives of nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, archaeological and historical organizations, and dispersed recreation activities (one opening); and representatives of state, county or local elected office, state agencies responsible for management of natural resources, Alaska Native representatives, representatives and employees of academic institutions who are involved in natural science, and the public at large (three openings).

BLM said those who submitted nominations in response to the first call issued in February do not need to resubmit as all nominations from the first and second calls will be considered.

Individuals may nominate themselves or others and must be residents of Alaska. Evaluation will be based on training, education and knowledge of the state. Nominations must be received by June 20.
