Tim Woolston is being promoted to external affairs director at Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., succeeding Jennifer Ruys, and retiring state Sen. Jerry Mackie has been hired as state government affairs manager, the company said May 12.
Ruys, who joined Alyeska in 1994 as media relations manager and was named external affairs director earlier this year, is taking a position effective June 1 in the media relations department of BP Amoco’s New York office.
Woolston joined Alyeska as media relations manager in March, after 14 years as a television and radio journalist in Alaska, including 10 years at KTUU-TV. As external affairs director, he will be responsible for all internal and external communications, media relations, community relations and state and federal government relations.
Mackie joins Alyeska as state government affairs manager, reporting to Woolston. Mackie will be responsible for developing relationships with state and local government agencies, lawmakers and administrations to communicate the company’s position on various issues and inform them on Alyeska project. Mackie will be based in Juneau.
Mackie is retiring from the Alaska Legislature after 10 years, the last four in the Senate, where he was majority leader this last term. Mackie has also served as a board member of the Alaska Federation of Natives, spent 10 years as a commercial fisherman in southeast Alaska, and built and managed the Sunnahae Lodge in Craig, where he was born and raised.
