Revised oil and gas lease sale schedule released
Petroleum News Alaska Staff
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has released released a revised oil and gas sale schedule. “As a result of uncertainties in future leaseholdings on the North Slope stemming from the BP-ARCO merger, the state has put a hold on oil and gas leasing for the North Slope and Beaufort Sea areas,” Commissioner John Shively said April 26. “Now that a merger has been approved by the Federal Trade Commission, we are able to press forward, but with some necessary revisions.”
Beaufort Sea areawide 1999, originally scheduled for October of last year, is now planned for November. North Slope areawide 2000, originally scheduled for February, is planned to be held concurrently with the Beaufort Sea sale in November.
Because of DNR’s public review process, a final decision on whether these two sales will be held will be issued in August. Beginning in 2001 North Slope and Beaufort Sea sales will be scheduled for October, while the Cook Inlet sales will shift to May.
