PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: New database system aids first responders

A new system to aid firefighters and others facing unknown chemical exposure has been developed by RAE Systems together with Alluviam LLC.

The HazRAE handheld wireless Decision support System includes a database that runs on handheld wireless devices. The database has more than 91,000 chemical biological warfare and bioterror agents, as well as explosives. In addition to providing details on identified hazards, the system helps users identify unknown chemical using signs and symptoms observed in victims.
