MMS honors Prentki with superior service award

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Richard Prentki, Ph.D., has received the Interior Department’s superior service award for his outstanding work in the Minerals Management Service Environmental Studies Program and his contributions to the Outer Continental Shelf offshore oil and gas leasing program.

Prentki has been with the MMS Alaska OCS Region for 20 years.

MMS said Prentki has played a significant role in the environmental assessment and studies that provide a foundation for the OCS program. He coordinated the Oil Spill Risk Analysis model, maintained the model’s scientific quality and format and interpreted and communicated results to the region’s analysts.

Prentki joined the Environmental Studies Section in 1990 and has administered more than 30 scientific contracts in the fields of physical oceanography and fates and effects of oil.

Recently he planned, designed and did outreach for the multi-million dollar “Arctic Nearshore Impact Monitoring in Development Area” study.
