David Wight of BP Amoco has been named to replace Bob Malone as president and chief executive officer of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.

Wight spent the last eight years as president and general manager of BP Amoco Energy Co. of Trinidad and Tobago and has been with the Amoco group since 1964.

Dick Rabinow, president of ExxonMobil Pipeline Co. and chair of the TAPS Owners Committee, said July 13: “The board is pleased to have David join Alyeska. He brings a great deal of experience and background to the position. We look forward to working with him on continuing the progress made in recent years.”

Wight (pronounced White) earned a petroleum engineering degree from Texas Tech University in 1964 and went to work for Amoco Production Co. in Texas as a petroleum engineer. He worked for Amoco in Kansas, Chicago and Denver before being named in 1989 as Amoco vice president in charge of production in the Middle East and Africa. In 1990, Wight became managing director of GUPCO, a joint venture company with the government of Egypt.

Since 1992, Wight has been president and general manager of BP Amoco Co. of Trinidad and Tobago. During his tenure, the company established the first liquefied natural gas plant in Trinidad, only the second LNG plant in the Western Hemisphere.

Wight is expected to begin his job at Alyeska before the end of summer. He replaces Bob Malone, who left Alyeska in June to become BP Amoco’s regional president, Western United States.

“I look forward to working with David in continuing to implement the strategies we’ve been developing at Alyeska in recent years,” said Dan Hisey, who continues in his new role as the company’s chief operating officer.
