Alaska North Slope crude oil production averaged 564,350 barrels per day in March, down 1.2 percent from a February average of 570,983 bpd.

In Cook Inlet, where production volumes are available on a month-delay basis, basin-wide production averaged 12,516 bpd in February, up 0.95 percent from a January average of 12,398 bpd.

The largest percentage drop on the North Slope was at the BP Exploration (Alaska)-operated Endicott field, down 16.9 percent due to maintenance which began in February and continued into March. Endicott production averaged some 11,000 bpd at the beginning of February, began dropping Feb. 21 and was in the 6,000-bpd range at the end of the month. That production level continued through mid-March, when production began to rise, averaging more than 10,000 bpd by the end of the month. Endicott production averaged 7,991 bpd for March, down from a February average of 9,613 bpd.

Endicott includes production from the Savant Alaska-managed Badami field on the eastern North Slope.

Except where noted, North Slope volumes are from the Alaska Department of Revenue’s Tax Division, which reports oil production consolidated by major production centers and provides daily production and monthly averages for the most recent month.

Data on production by field and pool is provided by the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on a month-delay basis. AOGCC data shows that Badami averaged 1,160 bpd in February, down 9 percent from a January average of 1,277 bpd.

Kuparuk also down

Production from the ConocoPhillips Alaska-operated Kuparuk River field averaged 129,789 bpd in March, down 4.5 percent from a February average of 135,849 bpd. Kuparuk volumes include satellite production from Tabasco, Tarn, Meltwater and West Sak, as well as production from the Eni-operated Nikaitchuq field and from the Pioneer Natural Resources Alaska-operated Oooguruk field.

AOGCC data for Nikaitchuq shows the field averaged 10,359 bpd in February, up 5.6 percent from a January average of 9,808 bpd. Oooguruk averaged 6,001 bpd in February, down 1 percent from a January average of 6,064 bpd.

Production at the BP-operated Prudhoe Bay field averaged 333,043 bpd in March, down 1.3 percent from a February average of 337,249 bpd. Prudhoe includes satellite volumes from Aurora, Borealis, Midnight Sun, Orion and Polaris, as well as production from the BP-operated Northstar and Milne Point fields.

Lisburne, Alpine up

Production from the BP-operated Lisburne field averaged 28,026 bpd in March, up 15.7 percent from a February average of 24,228 bpd. Lisburne production in February was down from January due to maintenance, some of which was scheduled to continue through March. The field had averaged 30,499 bpd in January, with a 20.6 percent drop to February due to maintenance.

The ConocoPhillips-operated Alpine field averaged 65,501 bpd in March, up 2.3 percent from a February average of 64,044 bpd. Alpine includes satellite production from Fiord, Nanuq and Qannik. The majority of the field’s production, 71 percent in February, was from Alpine, with most of the rest, 25 percent, from Fiord.

Cook Inlet

Cook Inlet crude oil production is from eight fields, only half of which have production greater than 1,000 bpd.

The Hilcorp-operated Granite Point field averaged 2,270 bpd in February, up 4 percent from a January average of 2,182 bpd. McArthur River, also operated by Hilcorp, averaged 4,213 bpd in February, down 0.9 percent from a January average of 4,253 bpd. The Middle Ground Shoal field, operated by ExxonMobil subsidiary XTO, averaged 2,191 bpd in February, down 1 percent from a January average of 2,213 bpd. The Hilcorp-operated Swanson River field averaged 2,089 bpd in February, down 5.2 percent from a January average of 2,204 bpd.

The largest month-over-month percentage change was an increase of 124 percent at the Cook Inlet Energy-operated Redoubt Shoal field, which averaged 322 bpd in February compared to 144 bpd in January.

ANS crude oil production peaked in 1988 at 2.1 million bpd; Cook Inlet crude oil production peaked in 1970 at more than 227,000 bpd.
