Allen Baker

Petroleum News contributing writer

Marty Rutherford has been appointed as the second deputy commissioner in the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The appointment was announced by DNR Commissioner Tom Irwin Nov. 21. Irwin said the new position was needed to meet the need for more oil and gas development in the state.

Rutherford has served in both Democratic and Republican administrations. She was deputy commissioner of DNR from 1993 through February of this year, when she left and went to work for the Jade North partnership.

Earlier, she worked as deputy commissioner of the Department of Community and Regional Affairs in 1990 and 1991. Before that, she was director of the municipal and regional assistance division going back to 1983.
