COMPANIES IN THE NEWS: WorkSafe executive earns certification, named to national board

Stephen A. Mihalik, general manager of WorkSafe in Anchorage, Alaska, has earned the Substance Abuse Program Administrators Certification and been named to the Board of Directors of the Substance Abuse Program Administrator’s Association, WorkSafe said in a press release in early December.

The association is a worldwide organization of professionals working in the substance abuse and drug testing industry.

The substance abuse certification is the highest level of training qualification that can be achieved in the drug testing industry, the company said.

“Criteria for the certification include passing the certification exam, completion of three years of experience in the substance abuse field, completion of a minimum of 40 hours approved training in the substance abuse field within the last five years, knowledge of the transportation industry and its modal regulations, and maintain high ethical and practice standards,” WorkSafe said.

WorkSafe is an Alaska firm specializing in employment drug and alcohol program management. It said it is the largest workplace drug and alcohol testing company in Alaska, representing more than 1,400 companies nationwide.

WorkSafe also provides training, education and consulting to employers throughout Alaska.

The company has been in operation since 1989 and is a subsidiary of NANA Development Corp.
