by The Associated Press

Kuukpik Corp., the Native village corporation for Nuiqsut, has formed an oil field maintenance and construction company.

Nuiqsut is at the western edge of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, near the new Alpine oil field.

Nanuq Inc. will be headed by James Palmateer, a 26-year veteran of the oil industry in Alaska who most recently was responsible for all civil work on the Alpine oil field development project.

The company will work out of Anchorage.
