Rep. Joe Green announces departure from state Legislature

by The Associated Press

Rep. Joe Green, R-Anchorage, announced April 29 he will not seek re-election to the Legislature.

Green, 68, will be completing his tenth year this year representing District 10 in South Anchorage.

When the state Redistricting Board redrew legislative district lines based on 2000 census numbers this year, Green was placed in a district with fellow Republican Rep. Lesil McGuire.

“I have been toying with this for probably the past seven or eight months as to whether I should stay a legislator or perhaps go play Grandpa,” Green said April 29 on the House floor.

Green said the recent death of his mother-in-law helped decide the issue.
