BLM realigns Alaska office boundaries
The federal Bureau of Land Management has realigned district and field office boundaries in Alaska using a landscape approach, the agency said March 13.
“The approved boundary adjustments will assist BLM to better respond in a timely and consistent manner to future demands and ensure consistent land management of ecologies,” BLM Alaska State Director Bud Cribley said in a statement.
BLM said its Alaska staff worked closely with communities affected by the boundary changes with meetings held in 13 rural communities and an open house in Anchorage.
Primary changes are:
•Administration of land near Kotzebue and within the boundaries of NANA Corp. will change from the Central Yukon field office to the Anchorage field office;
•Administration of lands north of Kotzebue near Point Hope will change from the Central Yukon to the Arctic field office;
•Administration of lands south of Fairbanks will move from the Central Yukon to the Eastern Interior field office; and
•Administration of lands along the Parks Highway, within the boundaries of Chickaloon Village Corp. and in Southeast Alaska will change from the Anchorage field office to the Glennallen field office.
