Mexico allows Shell to proceed with LNG terminal

Petroleum News Staff

Mexico has issued an environmental permit allowing Shell to proceed with plans for a $600 million LNG regasification terminal in Baja, California. The facility is scheduled to come on stream in 2007 at 1.3 billion cubic feet per day, with the gas being sold to Mexican power plants and industrial users, with surplus gas being exported to Southern California. Sempra has also just received a permit for a 1 billion cubic foot per day plant in Costa Azul, while Marathon and ChevronTexaco have applied for permits to build terminals in Baja California.
