Denali submits ROW for federal lands
Denali – The Alaska Gas Pipeline LLC submitted a right-of-way application Oct. 17 to the Bureau of Land Management to cross federal land in Alaska. Denali said Nov. 13 that approximately one-third of its 730-mile pipeline route in Alaska crosses land under BLM’s jurisdiction.
“This application initiates the formal pipeline ROW application process with the BLM,” Bud Fackrell, Denali president, said in a statement.
The company said the Alaska portion of its pipeline route generally follows the Dalton and Alaska highways from Prudhoe Bay southeast to the Canadian border.
In June Denali applied to begin the pre-filing process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. FERC approved the pre-filing request June 25.
Denali spokesman Dave MacDowell told Petroleum News the right-of-way application “is significant because it enables direct BLM involvement in Denali’s planning process. BLM can’t work on right-of-way issues unless an application is filed, and Denali has now done that.”
MacDowell said Denali expects to receive the BLM right-of-way approval after it receives approval from FERC for its certificate of convenience and necessity for the pipeline.
The Denali project is a pipeline to deliver 4 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day from the North Slope to markets in the Lower 48, Alaska and Canada.
