Unocal offers reward in search for vandals

by The Associated Press

Unocal Alaska is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those who vandalized a truck at the Beluga barge landing area on the western shore of Cook Inlet.

On Sept. 27, between 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., someone removed a cap and valve from the drain pipe of a fully loaded sewage tanker truck which was waiting transport.

An estimated 3,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled from the truck onto the ground. The same vandals are also thought to have caused damage to the truck’s fuel lines, causing a 130 gallon diesel fuel spill.

All liquids were contained in the 8 foot by 100 foot area and none leaked into the waters of Cook Inlet.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at 262-4453.
