State gets federal grant for mining education, safety

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

The state of Alaska has received a federal grant of nearly $43,000 for mine, health, and safety training and education.

The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration. The agency is awarding a total of nearly $8 million in health and safety grants nationwide.

Alaska has about 268 active mines and nearly 7,000 miners.
