Shallow gas, exploration licensing update

A form for the state’s shallow gas leasing program has been in the Department of Law for 18 months. Meanwhile, the Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas has received 68 expressions of interest in the program and has $34,000 received with those expressions of interest in an escrow account.

Jim Haynes of the division told PNA in February that the state should complete its paperwork in the near future. At that point, he said, the division will go out for public comment.

Haynes also said that the division is committed to a best interest finding in the Copper River basin for the exploration licensing program. Because of budgetary constraints, he said, work on the finding won’t start until the second quarter.
