Pipeline safety fragment of energy bill advances

The U.S. House took the final congressional action Nov. 15 on a pipeline safety bill that was largely crafted from a former provision in the stalled energy bill. The Senate passed the pipeline bill Nov. 13, and it has been passed to the president for signature.

The Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002 calls for increased inspection of natural gas and oil pipelines, with a priority on those that run through populated and recreation areas.
