Shell, Exxon “greenest” companies, study says

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Royal Dutch/Shell and Exxon Corp. took first and second place, respectively, in a study of the environmental performance of 13 leading oil companies doing business in the United States. Mobil Corp. took third place; Unocal Corp. finished last in a newly released report by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, a New York-based investment firm.

Innovest studies the environmental practices of Standard & Poor’s 500 companies, ranking them against firms in the same industry. In each of 10 major industry categories studied by Innovest, firms which rank the highest in care of the environment have also shown the best returns for stockholders.

The 80-page study can be found at Innovest’s web site: http://www.innovestgroup.com/ind_sec_rept__petro_rpt_content.html
