Polar Discovery arrives in Valdez

ConocoPhillips Alaska’s newest double-hulled tanker, Polar Discovery, arrived in Alaska in mid-November.

The ship took on its first load of Alaska North Slope crude oil Nov. 15, ConocoPhillips Alaska spokeswoman Dawn Patience told Petroleum News Nov. 20.

Polar Tankers, the ConocoPhillips subsidiary which operates the company’s tanker fleet, took delivery of the Discovery in early September. It joins the Polar Endeavour and Polar Resolution carrying crude oil from Alaska to the West Coast and Hawaii.

Two additional Endeavour-class tankers are under construction at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Avondale, La., scheduled for delivery in 2004 and 2006.

The company’s entire fleet will be double hulled by 2008.
