Gulf license comment period extended

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas, has extended the comment period on its notice of intent to evaluate an exploration license proposal in the Gulf of Alaska (see story in May 31 issue of Petroleum News).

The division has requested additional proposals for oil and gas or gas only proposals in the area; notice of intent to submit a proposal must be received by June 20 and proposals must be received by July 20.

A successful license holder will have the exclusive right to explore state land within the license area for oil and gas for up to 10 years and may convert all or a portion of the license area to oil and gas leases after meeting work commitments specified in the license, the division said. Before issuing an exploration license the division must find that an exploration license is in the state’s best interest.

Comments on exploration for oil and gas resources within the solicitation area are due Aug. 3.
