$281 million in energy products exported last year

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

The governor's office said March 12 that energy products totaled $281 million in 2002 out of total Alaska exports of $2.52 billion; fertilizer exports were $162 million.

The state no longer exports crude oil, so energy sector exports are focused on refined petroleum products. The state said sales of liquefied natural gas from the Kenai Peninsula to Japan remained stable and a new multi-year contract extension was signed for that export.

Fertilizer exports, mainly from the Agrium plant in Nikiski, declined.

Japan is Alaska's top overall export market and the leading importer in four out of the top five Alaska export categories: seafood, energy, minerals and wood.
