OK, so there is no Ritz Carlton in Williston, nor a glamorous shopping and entertainment district but residents – both permanent and temporary – expect to live in a comfortable and healthy environment. One might debate the life-style of a man-camp resident or the challenges of everyday shopping for food, clothing and other essentials, much less the more frivolous whims. In essence though, there are many more economic opportunities in Williston and surrounding communities than in many other cities in the USA and around the world. So everyone makes the most of it, each with a personal goal. City and county officials and staff as well as the business community have common objectives to enhance the economic well-being of their entities and stakeholders.
Shouldn’t the working population have similar goals? Wouldn’t everyone benefit if the standard of living for everyone was improved. Money is not the standard of happiness.
Living conditions and other quality of life elements are equally important.
Are man-camps positive environments for motivation and retention? Probably not. Who wouldn’t rather stay in a hotel room with amenities and living space plus daily housekeeping, fresh hot and healthy meals available 24 hours a day, fitness, recreation and entertainment areas and a friendly staff of hospitality professionals? And what if there were minimal or no price differentials for these facilities and services versus man-camps?
Part of the solution are the many new apartments being built in the area. These allow for independent living in convenient clusters - great for chefs, tidy and organized individuals but not so much for busy individuals seeking an inclusive price for facilities and services.
And then there is Dakota Landing, Williston’s newest hotel and housing solution built specifically for this market. The rooms are spacious, with telephone and WIFI services included. There is daily housekeeping service, a business center and laundry service.
The kitchen produces 24 hour food service including hot full American breakfast buffets and hot, multi-entrée dinner buffets. For those on non-traditional schedules, there is tasty food available any time.
Add a fitness center, recreation and entertainment rooms, a boot room – necessary for sanity in this muddy environment – and block warmer hook-ups for the colder days in North Dakota. There is a lending library and meeting space for corporate or social meetings up to 40 persons. Most importantly, there is a warm, smiling face at the front desk upon your return every day. The staff members at Dakota Landing are hired for their attitudes and skills. They are genuinely happy to help guests.
Isn’t this the new prototype for housing solution in the Bakken.
Q. What new markets, clients or projects will your company attract in the next year?
A. Dakota Landing will become the preferred long-term stay accommodations in the market attracting energy-related companies to provide a better life-style for their employees, and thus drive retention and motivation to become long term residents.
Q. What is the address of your company’s Web site?
A. www.dakotalanding.com
