Arctic Directory: Solstice adds shine to celebration on forests

Solstice Advertising, a subsidiary of Calista Corp., said March 11 that the United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 the International Year of Forests, with the goal of raising awareness on sustainable management, development and conservation of all forests.

At the request of the U.S. Forest Service, Solstice was tasked with creating a brand identity and collectible poster series to commemorate two of the nation’s largest national forests located right here in the Last Frontier — the Tongass and Chugach national forests.

To communicate the important role that these forests play in the daily lives of Alaskans, the Solstice team developed the theme of “Alaska’s Forests: More Than A Place to Visit — It’s Where We Live!”

To bring this concept to life, Solstice created four variations, each in a strikingly hip, vintage, eye-catching collectible poster. The Forest Service will debut the posters throughout the year. The posters are free and available at any Forest Service office in Alaska.
